About the Airport

Kempegowda International Airport opened in 2008. Bengaluru had outgrown its old airport, so the city needed a bigger and more modern one to handle the growing number of travellers. The airport is named after Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru, to honour the city’s history.

Today, the airport has two main terminals.

Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 1 handles most of the daily traffic and is used mainly for domestic flights.

Kempegowda International Airport Terminal 2 is for international flights and some domestic routes. This terminal is known for its beautiful “garden look.” It has warm wooden designs, many plants, and lots of natural light. The whole place feels calm and close to nature.
